On Sunday, November 23, the New York Giants hosted the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. It was the Sunday Night Football game: the primetime game of the day. It was a divisional matchup between two teams with one of the biggest rivalries in the league. The Cowboys have the playoffs in their sights, but the Giants and their fans, wanted to get the win to make it harder for Dallas to make it to the postseason.
The first half of the game was all about the Giants. They scored 21 points through two quarters and were up 21-10 at halftime. However, the second half of the game the tables completely turned and it was all about the Cowboys. They scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter, getting on top 24-21 when the fourth quarter started. It was so close that all fans were on the edge of their seats. The Giants made it to the endzone and scored a touchdown, taking the lead once again 28-24. Unfortunately, that was not enough. Dallas got the ball back with three minutes left in the game, and drove down the field score the go-ahead touchdown, and ultimately winning the game. The Cowboys advanced to 8-3 and the Giants dropped to 3-8.
Final Score: Cowboys – 31, Giants – 28
The highlight of the game, and possibly the entire season, was the most amazing catch by the Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. It’s his rookie season, and he made the catch of the year, if not the greatest catch anyone has ever seen. Watch the play for yourself below.
On November 16, 2014, the New York Giants hosted the San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium. Coming into this games, the Giants needed a win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. The game started on a good note for the Giants when they took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. However, the hope would soon be gone.
As the game went on, the Giants only were able to score 3 more points. By the end of the third quarter the 49ers had scored a total of 16 points. As the fourth quarter went on, the Giants had an opportunity to take the lead. They were on the 4 yard line with four chances to score the go-ahead touchdown. Unfortunately, the Giants were not able to gain the 4 yards that they needed, and they lost the game. Their record has now fallen to disappointing 3-7 and they are tied for last place in the division.
Final Score: 49ers – 16, Giants – 10
On Monday, November 3, the New York Giants hosted the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium. It was Monday Night Football, a primetime game that the whole nation would be watching. The Giants were coming off of their bye week, and needed a win to help them get back on track to a chance at the playoffs. The two teams who are not only the Giants rivals, but also leading the division, the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles both have injured quarterbacks, setting the Giants up for what seemed like could be a perfect situation.
However the Giants could not get anything going on either side of the ball. The offense couldn’t seem to find a way to score any touchdowns in the first half, and the defense wasn’t making any big plays. This lead to a heartbreaking loss, the third loss in a row for the Giants. Their record has now dropped to 3-5.
The Giants honored one of their best players, Michael Strahan, at halftime, giving him his Hall of Fame ring. He was surrounded by his old teammates, as well as other Giants Hall of Famers.
Final Score: Colts – 40, Giants – 24
On October 26, the New York Jets hosted the Buffalo Bills in a divisional game at MetLife Stadium. The Jets were going into this game desperate for a win after losing their last 6 games in a row. During the week, the Jets had acquired a new player, Percy Harvin, from the Seattle Seahawks in hopes that his presence would ignite a spark in a team that was desperate and would do anything to get a win.
The game started out worse than any Jets fans and players could ever imagine. Quarterback Geno Smith threw three consecutive interceptions within the first few minutes of the first quarter. Coach Rex Ryan benched Smith after the third interception, and put in the backup quarterback Michael Vick. While Vick also had his fair share of struggles, he helped lead the team to score 23 points. However, that was not enough. The Jets lost their seventh game in a row, their record now dropping to an embarrassing 1-7. Jets fans all over are hoping something changes so that the second half of the season isn’t as heartbreaking as the first half has been.
Final Score: Bills – 43, Jets – 23
On October 19, the New York Giants played the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas, Texas. Fans of both teams knew all week that this was one of the most important games of the season thus far. The Giants and the Cowboys are both in the same division, the NFC East. Going into this game, the Cowboys had a record of 5-1 and the Giants had a record of 3-3. The Giants needed to come out with a win to catch up to the Cowboys’ record and help their chances of getting to the top of the division. Unfortunately the Giants weren’t able to pull off a win, their record now falling to 3-4.
Final Score: Cowboys – 31, Giants – 21
Since there was no game at MetLife Stadium this week, I went to Blu Alehouse in Riverdale to watch the game.
On October 12, 2014, the New York Jets played the Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium. The Jets took the lead early, but it was short-lived. It appeared as though the Broncos had the game in the bag, but the Jets ended up coming back within seven points late in the fourth quarter. However, this comeback was not enough, and the Jets lost, their record now falling to 1-5.
Final Score: Broncos – 31, Jets – 17
